Suitable Items for the Extra-Large Washer

Bulky household textiles that are designed to be washed.

Bulky washing being loaded into a large-capacity Spakleen washing machine

The 27kg drum is the machine that makes bulky, washable items possible.

  • Suitable soft, washable rugs
  • Bath mats and floor runners
  • Picnic rugs and outdoor blankets
  • Cushion covers and throw covers
  • Curtains where the care label allows
  • Heavy blankets and quilted throws
  • Large towel and linen sets
  • Oversized washable household textiles

Not every rug is suitable for machine washing. Rubber or latex-backed, jute, sisal, wool-pile and hand-knotted rugs can be damaged by a machine wash. Always check the care instructions, and if the label is missing or unclear, call us on 03 7050 3699 first. We would rather help you check than see an item ruined.

Laundromat was kept in great condition. Folding tables were not dusty or dirty at all. Quite comfortable to use the folding table to fold the clothes after drying.

Such a nice clean facility. They also do wash dry fold service which was so helpful for me. Hopefully they can sort some signage soon as it was really hard to find but very worth it.

Questions & answers

Rug Washing FAQs

Suitability, cost and drying, answered before you load.

Suitable soft, washable rugs can go into our 27kg extra-large washer. Cotton, microfibre and synthetic-pile rugs and bath mats are usually fine. Rubber or latex-backed, jute, sisal, wool-pile and hand-knotted rugs are generally not suitable for machine washing.

Check the care label on the underside of the rug. If it says machine wash, follow the recommended temperature. If there is no label or you are unsure, call us on 03 7050 3699 and describe the rug before you travel.

The 27kg extra-large washer is $14 per wash. Drying in the 21kg jumbo dryer costs $6 for 30 minutes, $8 for 40 minutes or $12 for 60 minutes, depending on the thickness of the rug.

Many washable rugs can be tumble dried on a low or warm setting if the care label allows it. Thick or rubber-backed rugs should be air dried instead, as heat can damage the backing.

Bath mats, floor runners, pet-free blankets, curtains where the care label allows, cushion covers, picnic rugs and other oversized washable household textiles all fit comfortably in the extra-large machine.

No. Both laundromats are walk-in and open daily from 6:00AM to 1:00AM. Every machine is cashless: tap your card or phone to start.
